Summer 2019

GLA Photo & Video Contests

Win up to $100 and the chance to have your photography or video featured on our website or catalog!

2019 TOPIC: What does GLA mean to you?

Travel can make you more creative. This year's topic is "What Does GLA Mean to You?" Use your creativity to interpret this theme and showcase it in your contest submissions. There are plenty of things you'll gain from going abroad this summer: new friends, new experiences, new stories. But living in another country often comes with another benefit: It can make you more creative. Artists and thinkers have long felt the creative benefits of international travel, from Ernest Hemingway in Spain and Cuba to Maya Angelou in Ghana and Egypt. This summer, unleash your own creativity and submit your reflections, photographs and videos to our GLA student contests for a chance to win some prizes.

Two Ways to Enter:

Instagram Photo + Caption Contest

What we're looking for: What does GLA mean to you? Try to capture a photo that exemplifies the essence of GLA.

How has volunteering abroad helped you see the world differently? Whether you've learned to be a more responsible traveler, vowed to combine your bucket list with ways to give back or became aware of how much we can learn from visiting our global neighbors, we want to hear about it. Show us with a meaningful Instagram photo + caption, and you could be one of our three (3) winners this summer!

Prizes: Three (3) individual winners will each receive a $25 Amazon gift card.

Step 1: Go on your service-learning program with GLA (Spring Break or Summer 2019).

Step 2: Creatively photograph your new friends or surroundings (make sure you're practicing cultural sensitivity!) and reflect on how service-learning has helped you see the world differently.

Step 3: Post your photo and caption on Instagram with #2019GLAphotocontest (hashtag required) and tag @GLAteens by August 30.

That's it; your job is done!

See Instagram Contest rules & FAQ.

YouTube Video Contest

What we're looking for: 5-minute or shorter video that creatively captures what GLA means to you. Try to think deeply about what message you want to say with your video!

Take us on a journey. Do you have an eye for collecting amazing footage while traveling? Turn your raw videos into a 5-minute piece showing what GLA means to you for the chance to win an Amazon gift card worth up to $100.

Prizes: One (1) first-place winner will receive a $100 Amazon gift card. One (1) runner-up will receive a $25 Amazon gift card.

Step 1: Go on your service-learning program with GLA (Spring Break or Summer 2018).

Step 2: Gather footage of your new friends or surroundings. (Be sure to do so with cultural sensitivity!)

Step 3: Edit your video and upload the final, 5-minute or shorter version to your own YouTube channel. Please title it as follows: GLA + Program Name + by Your Name (Example: GLA Fiji: Children of the South Pacific by James Peters)

Step 4: Submit the link to your video on YouTube by email to students@experiencegla.com by August 31 with the subject line Video Contest Entry. Be sure to include your full name and which GLA program you went in on the body of the email. PLEASE DO NOT submit your video file itself in the email or as an attachment; only YouTube video links will be accepted.
